At African Youth Health Education Magnet, we believe education is the key to unlocking opportunity. Our programs are designed to give African youth positive options and pathways toward a brighter future. By engaging young people through leadership, health education, and community-driven projects, we help them gain the tools they need to transition successfully into adulthood and become agents of change in their villages.

  • AYHEM’s unique Youth Health Corps equips young people with essential health and safety knowledge, then trains them to become peer educators in their communities. Through lessons on sanitation, hygiene, drug prevention, reproductive health, and HIV/AIDS awareness, youth not only improve their own well-being but also spread knowledge that strengthens the health of children, families, and communities.

  • Our leadership programs help young people discover their strengths, develop confidence, and practice teamwork. Group activities, workshops, and mentoring sessions prepare youth to work effectively with others and to take on leadership roles within their communities and beyond.

  • Each participating community elects its own Youth Council — a group of youth leaders who receive an annual Youth Empowerment Fund. This fund supports projects designed by youth, such as:

    • Building clean-water sources

    • Restoring parks and local rivers

    • Adding toilets to public health clinics

    • Expanding local libraries and resources

    By leading these projects, youth learn democracy in action: how to present ideas, organize projects, collaborate with peers, and vote on priorities.
